I wrote to you recently about the cancellation of our June talk and AGM. I said that I hoped that we would be able to hold the AGM at our first meeting of the 2020-21 academic year in October and that your Committee would continue in place until that time. Our Membership Secretary, Lesley Rose, has decided that she will step down now so you will be receiving emails and hard copy updates from me for the time being. Volunteers to take on this role from the next AGM will be warmly received.
I have now heard from the Institute of English Studies that Senate House will not be open for meetings during the autumn term but that it may be possible for us to hold our Christmas talk and party there in December. We will, obviously, take advantage of this if it is possible and use the opportunity also to hold our AGM. If not, we will start the academic year with our January talk and AGM. In terms of the membership fee for next year, we will aim to keep this to a minimum and agree this with the membership at our AGM.
I fear that we will not be able to arrange the delayed trip to the National Theatre in September and it may be that we are not able to have a trip this calendar year at all. We will keep you notified of progress about all of this and put updates here on the website.
Until we are able to meet again take care.
Lindsay Martin, Chair
