Spring 2020 Newsletter

Looking back over the programme I think we have had another very interesting start to our academic year:

 in October we had Professor Alexandra Harris on “Local Vision.”

 in November Jim Dowd, MP (retired) spoke about “Writers/authors: literature and Parliament.”

 in December Dr. Emma Curry entertained us with Dickens and melodrama which was followed by the Christmas party

 in January His Honour Judge Charles Welchman spoke on “Great Advocates – Fact and Fiction.”

For the rest of this academic year our programme at Senate House is as follows and starts at 2 pm:

7 March 2020 Room 243 The Charles Peake Memorial lecture: this lecture has been cancelled and will now take place on 13 June 2020.

18 April 2020 Room 243 Emeritus Professor Mike Irwin, looking in detail at six pairs of poems. The titles will be available shortly.

16 May 2020 – The proposed literary trip in May this year will be in London. We are currently exploring a number of options and expect to have details available at our March meeting and here on our website. The final date for bookings will be at our April talk.

13 June 2020 Room 243 Emeritus Professor Warren Chernaik, on “’Service’ in the poems of George Herbert” followed by the AGM.

Please do check the website for up-to-date information about the Association.

We look forward to seeing you and your friends at our meetings. Please take every opportunity to publicise the Association so that we can increase our membership and continue to provide such a wide-ranging programme for a very modest subscription.
